In addition to being one of the more important contributors to the ceramic’s revival today, Didi Rojas is also an incredibly talented painter. Tell Me You Like Things Without Telling Me You Like Things, Rojas focuses her attention on a new painting on canvas, Untitled (Gucci Hair Comb), 2021.
Across a variety of media, Didi’s work has always had a strong painterly aspect. From pieces such as her replica ceramic sneakers, designer handbags or even sunglasses, Rojas has continuously masters the ability to combine unique detail and precision consistent throughout sculptural components.
Within this new work by Rojas, she captures her unique style of design, fashion and fun. Untitled (Gucci Hair Comb) makes for a particularly special work by Didi, detailing an almost James Rosenquist-esque portrayal of the iconic Gucci hair comb. Rojas’ technical brilliance of detail and composition combine together to create a painting charged with realism and expand upon the meticulously organized popular culture aesthetic formed by the artist.
