LAUNCH F18 is delighted to present DEATH DIVE, a group exhibition opening with a limited time engagement from December 1 – December 2, 2018 at the gallery’s 373 Broadway location in New York.  The exhibition premiers on Saturday, December 1st from 6-9 PM and includes participating artists Lauren Fejarang, Dylan Hausthor, Clint Horetz, Insil Jang, Andy Mister and Lorella Paleni.  The exhibition is curated by Christin Graham and Sam Trioli.

 

DEATH DIVE attempts to peel away the concepts of pleasurable experiences, masked as thrills driving one towards destruction and ultimately death.  For this exhibition curators Christin Graham and Sam Trioli symbolically sculpt the exhibition as the experiences of an unnamed individual, utilizing their curatorial choices as the unsupervised destructive force.  With a careful selection of artists that strive to mimic the Ying and Yang duality of life and death instincts, DEATH DIVE indicates the impending fragility of our physical form.  Within this multidimensional creation they address attractive tendencies such as “live fast and die young” and the cultural glorification of the 27 Club.  As these concepts are explored through out the exhibition, DEATH DIVE sets the stage for a performative human interaction within a unique exhibition experience.

Lauren Fejarang received her BA from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2009. She received her MFA in 2013 from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. Significant solo and two person exhibitions include Lobby Gallery, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (2012); Graduate Gallery, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (2013); Strobel and Sands, Seattle (2018), and FOUND Gallery, Seattle (2018). She has been included in numerous group exhibitions including, UWRC Campo de Fiori, Rome (2008); MIM Gallery, Los Angeles (2016); Pizza of Venice, Altadena, CA (2017); Super Dutchess Gallery, New York (2018); Basement Projects, Santa Ana (2018); and SRO Gallery, Brooklyn (2018). Fejarang currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
 
Dylan Hauthsthor received his BFA in 2015 at Maine College of Art, Portland. He has had solo exhibitions at Maine College of Art, Portland (2014); Incubator Gallery, Haverhill, MA (2016); and Speedwell Projects, Portland (2018); Hausthor has participated in multiple group exhibitions including PHoPa Gallery, Portland (2016); BIP-Leige, Belgium (2016); Doomed Gallery, London (2017); Humble Arts Foundation, Brooklyn (2017); Photo London, London (2018); and Hunger VOID, Istanbul (2018). In 2018 Hausthor was listed as a finalist for the Aperture Portfolio Award. He currently lives and works outside of Portland, Maine.
 
Clint Horetz received their BFA in painting from the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire in 2017. They are currently participating in classes at The Art Students League of New York. They have been included in multiple group exhibitions including Roger Williams Gallery, Manchester, New Hampshire (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017); and Verge Gallery Manchester, New Hampshire (2015). Horetz currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
 
Insil Jang received her BFA with an emphasis in painting and printmaking at The Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. Jang will be presenting her first solo exhibition at CICA Museum, South Korea in 2019. She has participated in several group exhibitions including Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, Toronto, Canada (2015); SUGS Gallery, Chicago (2015); FMK 5X5 Locallective, Chicago (2016); Studio Oh, Chicago (2016); NFT Gallery, Long Island City (2017); Jang currently works and lives in Brooklyn, New York.  
 

Andy Mister received his BA from Loyola University New Orleans in English Writing and Philosophy in 2001 and his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana in 2003. He is represented by Turn Gallery, New York. Mister has had solo exhibitions at Brian Morris Gallery, New York (2014); Geoffrey Young Gallery, Great Barrington, MA (2015); Hirschl & Adler MODERN, New York (2017) TURN Gallery, New York (2016, 2018); He has additionally participated in numerous group exhibitions including Galerie Manique, Brooklyn (2016); SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York (2016); Jeff Baily Gallery, Hudson (2017); Morgan Lehman, New York (2017); He currently works and lives in Beacon, New York.

 

Lorella Paleni received her BFA in painting at Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, Venice, in 2010. She received her MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University School of the Arts, New York, in 2015. Paleni has had solo exhibitions at Kunstalle 1, HB55 Kunstfabrik, Berlin (2013); Magic Beans Gallery, Berlin (2016); and E.Tay Gallery, New York (2017). In addition, she has participated in a number of group exhibitions including Front Room Gallery, Brooklyn (2012); WhiteLabs, Milan (2012); Fellini Gallery, Berlin (2013); Judith Charles Gallery, New York (2015), International Print Center, New York (2015); and Charlie Smith London, London (2017). Paleni will be participating as one of three artists selected for the Indo-European Residency Project Kolkata starting in December.
